1. Acute Pain Crisis

What to Look For:
– Severe pain that can occur suddenly and last several hours to days
– Commonly affects the back, legs, arms, chest, and abdomen

How to Respond:
– Administer pain medication promptly (usually opioids for severe pain)
– Initiate IV fluids to prevent dehydration
– Consult hematologist for possible transfusion if severe
