SCFA CELEBRATES SEPTEMBER NATIONAL SICKLE CELL AWARENESS MONTH 

Approximately 100,000 Americans live with sickle cell disease, a chronic condition that causes the red blood cells to harden and form a sickle shape. This sickling causes severe and unpredictable pain, intense fatigue, frequent infections and more.

SCFA encourages everyone to be a part of this annual effort to increase awareness about sickle cell disease and sickle cell trait during the month of September. Individuals and organizations can join our efforts to bring attention to sickle cell disease by hosting awareness events, distributing educational information and just having a discussion to dispel the myths about sickle cell disease. SCFA’s 2024 theme is “You Can Make A Difference in 2024″.

Sickle cell is an inherited disorder. People with SCD have two sickle cell genes and people with SCT only have one. SCT often doesn’t cause any health issues, while people with SCD will battle symptoms their whole lives. LEARN MORE – Visit sickleVisit https://360scdhub.org/courses/

Sickle cell disease is often a lifelong condition. It is usually diagnosed at birth, and it can cause chronic severe pain, fatigue and more. Every year, approximately 2,000 babies are bornwith sickle cell in the United States. LEARN MORE – https://360scdhub.org/welcome-overview/
