When your baby was sickle cell trait grows up he or she could possibly have children with sickle cell disease. It depends on the genes that the other parent has.

This Sickle Cell Gene can be passed along. It can be passed along to the grandchildren so when your child gets older, let him or her know this. An individual with sickle cell trait has a 50% chance of passing along the gene to their child and 25% chance of passing it to a grandchild. They should get tested.

If combined with another Sickle Cell Gene, this will result in sickle cell disease.
