This hybrid event, co-hosted by the Sickle Cell Foundation of Arizona, Banner University Family Care, American Red Cross of Southern Arizona, and the Force for Health® Network, is an incredible opportunity to learn, engage, and help make a difference in the fight against sickle cell disease (SCD).
This event is especially significant as it coincides with Black History Month, focusing on the impact of SCD on the African American community.
We are thrilled to bring together key leaders in the field to advance education, support, and care for those affected by SCD.

- 2:15 pm- 2:45 pm – General Community Session: Understanding the History of SCD & Its Impact on African Americans in the US, featuring Dr. Yvette Miller, Executive Medical Officer, American Red Cross, followed by some Q & A panelists, Sam Ross, Arizona Achiever’s Foundation and Crystal Jackson, Program Director, Red Cross
- 2:45 pm – 3:15 pm – Living with SCD Session: Celebrating Community Voices, featuring Dr. Maa-Ohui Quarmyne, Phoenix Children’s Hospital with an exciting new project designed to amplify the stories of SCD families across the state of Arizona, followed by family lead committee chairs with highlights and updates
- 3:15 – 3:45 pm – Medical Community Session: Never Underestimate the Hearts & Power of Our Nurses, featuring Dr. Danielle Nance, MD Banner MD Anderson Cancer Center, featuring a panel with Lori Throne, Associate CNO, Banner University Medical Group Tucson and Lisa Alexander, President, School Nurse Organization of Arizona
- 3:45 pm – 3:55 pm – Rewards and Q & A
- 4:00 pm – Program Concludes
